Occasionally, I'm inclined to write reviews for movies, places, restos, or just about anything. Watch out for those cutting remarks! =)

Source Code

Tuesday, June 28, 2011

Ever had that moment when your friends are talking about a great movie just shown that you have completely no idea about? Makes me feel like living in a different world every time! This one went out in theaters in April. How could I have missed this? Jake Gyllenhaal stars a Sci-Fi thriller named, Source Code; rated 91% movie review by rottentomatoes.com. This is rather an excellent mark coming from rottentomatoes.com

From rottentomatoes.com:
When decorated soldier Captain Colter Stevens (Jake Gyllenhaal) wakes up in the body of an unknown man, he discovers he's part of a mission to find the bomber of a Chicago commuter train. In an assignment unlike any he's ever known, he learns he's part of a government experiment called the Source Code, a program that enables him to cross over into another man's identity in the last 8 minutes of his life. With a second, much larger target threatening to kill millions in downtown Chicago, Colter re-lives the incident over and over again, gathering clues each time, until he can solve the mystery of who is behind the bombs and prevent the next attack. -- (C) Summit

I'm a big Sci-Fi fan. I'm getting a DVD for this one!

Brand New Year!

Friday, January 1, 2010

Well, this is my first entry of the first day of the year. I didn't think it would still happen to me. Not most specially on the first day of a new year. There's so many things to be thankful for in the year that passed. But I'm excited and ready for 2010.

Saying goodbye to 2009 meant saying goodbye to a handful of stuff. I tied up the loose ends and cut off the things that just don't and won't ever fit. It's a brand new year. And it has begun.

It's profound and quite unexplainable when you find something valuable in the most unexpected place and time, and just as the year starts. It couldn't possibly be any more perfect.

I feel energized and refreshed. Like a huge weight has been lifted. It's almost liberating. A whole different world is lighting up. I found myself back. And I feel so young again, like I can conquer the world. It's crazy. And I'm hoping it's not just a dream.

I'm inspired!

Christmas Wishlist

Saturday, December 19, 2009

This week started slow and ended crazy!

Been wanting to post this entry for a number of days already but just had the time today to do so.

This is a few of my Christmas wishes(along with love and world peace.. lol).

1. D.A.'s Christmas Album - I've heard cuts from this album which includes the one I posted here in my blog, "The First Noel". Can't say enough about it. Last time I checked, recordshops here didn't have it yet, and then last week they said it's sold out! Nice luck!

2. Ok, so cheezy right? But if I'm going to get his Christmas CD, I'd like to have his first album as well. It's not that I can't buy it for myself, but it's Christmas, I'll have it for free if I can. hehehe..

3. I'm not your regular music junkie, but I would really like to keep music handy when I need to de-stress(pretty much all the time!).

4. Point and shoot digital camera. Everybody needs one, right?

5. Higher pay at work.

All other wishes will have to wait until next year. But more importantly, I'm thankful that I've been alive and well throughout this year. If I can have only 1 wish next year, it'll have to be, continued good health. Then I'll take care of everything with a little prayer in my pocket.

Merry Christmas! =)

Xavier Days '09

Friday, December 4, 2009

It's been a while since I last came to visit the school I graduated from. This year, I had the opportunity to come see the festivities of XU Days '09.

Sure there are still a lot of students . But it's not quite the same anymore.

They didn't have the lantern making contest this year, neither was the Christmas Tree Making Competition that I was expecting and was excited to see.

I guess I was somewhat disappointed. The lantern making contest has been like a Christmas tradition for many years. And the big part of what I really love about the XU Days is the Christmas Tree Making Competition that they didn't do this year.

They had the Christmas Carol Contest which I think just completely disregarded the solemnity of the Immaculate Conception Chapel. Did they have to do that contest in the chapel? The gym or the little theater is a more suitable venue for that.

In our time, our choir did a benefit concert inside the chapel. But that was completely different because we did solemn Christmas songs. I do not like the fact that contests are now done inside the chapel.

Although on the lighter side of things, I am impressed with the number of improved structures in the campus. The sky bridge connecting the Commerce building to the Engineering building now looks like an arch of a big ocean-vessel.

The twin buldings, CIT and Engineering buildings are not quite "twins" anymore with the CIT building bearing massive stairwell installations. Divisions were set in all places and an additional floor has been added.

I wasn't quite able to scrutinize the other buildings but I took particular time looking at the new installations of what used to be XU's twin buildings. They're no longer twins.

This is a shot, with the moon looking perfectly magnificent, of the soccerfield with the Engineering building upfront, and the beautifully lit Commerce bulding on the left. The students have gathered like in a picnic to watch a movie. There is a make-shift screen installed in the middle. If you can see a small bluescreen upfront, the movie has started running.

The Commerce building with its magnificent lights turned on, looks like a call center building in Makati.

Soccer field shot from the Commerce building. Booths were installed on the left side of the field which can't be seen from this angle.

I read through the schedule of activies here and there weren't much even if you can read through this.

My over-all observation; it would seem that this year's Xavier Days did not meet up to it's purpose. Sure I saw bouquets of flowers in St. Francis Xavier's statue, but there were wires dangling all over, and the statue could hardly be noticed with all the flower arrangements just clumsily placed everywhere.

Xavier days in the past was commemorated with a parade around the city in honor and to honor the university's patron saint, St. Francis Xavier. In the parade, we would bring our "lantern making contest" entries along, to show the city what we created, to celebrate St. Francis' great selflessness and service.

Now, I'm not sure what it's all about anymore. They have this "Engage Dance Party" which I suppose is the climax of this year's Xavier Days.

Sad.

Whew!

Wow! This blog layouting and editing is tiresome!

But I guess I can put the layouting to rest now. I'm just waiting for the confirmation from Google adsense and that's it. I'm done with the layout and will now be focusing on my blog entries.

Special thanks to Iniel for the suggestion on my header. That really put off that nice finishing touch nil! Thank you so much.

And to all those who contributed ideas, you know who you are, thank you so much. That was two long days of hard labour. Haha.

I will be going back to work tomorrow after a month's leave. I had to accompany my mom for her medical check up in Manila. She'll hopefully be going back to the U.S.

I'm not sure how things are going to be at the office. I am excited to see everyone. But I've been gone for a month and I'd hate to see my table, topsy turvy. Hopefully Chai2x looked after it. She's an officemate. And she promised to keep my table in order as I had asked her to.

So I guess this is it for now. It's been crazy! But I enormously enjoyed working on my blog. It's been fun!
